Sources & calculations

Public records retrieved October 1, 2026. Views use MTA observations and NYC DOT’s published lane inventory.

Speed
Recorded bus miles divided by recorded bus-hours. Each segment's distance and travel time are weighted by its recorded traversals. Segment travel time includes movement, stops, signals, and operator relief.
Current lane match
Matched dedicated-lane bus-miles divided by eligible recorded bus-miles. October 1 inventory schedules are applied to the selected day and hour. Matching follows each street’s local direction within 40 feet, with overlapping records counted once. Unknown route geometry, lane classification, direction, or hours are excluded from the denominator. Shared lanes and point treatments retain separate source classifications. This is a current-inventory comparison with earlier observations.
Time-savings calculation
Recorded travel minutes on selected segments × assumed reduction ÷ 60 = bus-hours saved in the selected month, day, and hour. Segment observations count traversals between timepoints. Per-traversal savings use the average recorded travel time of each segment.
Rider time
MTA customer journey metrics compare additional waiting and onboard time with the timetable, weighted by modeled rides. Peak covers 7–9 AM and 4–7 PM. Route metrics use their own Peak or Off-Peak selector. Monthly rider measures cover modeled unlinked bus rides starting from 4 AM through 11 PM. They use the full route, independently of the map’s day, hour, direction, service, and district filters. Signed values are retained; aggregate ALL rows are excluded. Journeys within five minutes use MTA’s passenger-weighted Customer Journey Time Performance.
Recorded boardings
Automatic passenger counters record boardings and alightings by stop. The stop list sums those records for the selected month.
Camera enforcement
Program dates come from the bus-camera rollout table. Issued violations include records with the status “VIOLATION ISSUED,” grouped by route and month.
Households without a vehicle
2020–2024 American Community Survey five-year estimates, table B08201: households with zero vehicles divided by all households in each census tract. The overlay describes households in the tract.
Street paths
Timepoint endpoints are matched to archived MTA shapes whose validity overlaps the observation month. Divergent in-period paths are marked unknown. Council district membership follows the matched street path. The route tables retain every measured segment.
