NY State Senate Transportation Committee Chair Norman Levy released a report on NYC straphangers' perceptions of subway crime November 23, and said he's opposed to the merger of the NYC Transit Police with the NYPD. Levy would be an important factor in a decision on the
merger if an appeals court decides the plan needs legislative approval. Levy's report said the MTA needs to do much more bring subway riders' perceptions of the system into line with recent steep drops in subway crime.
