New Jersey Transit restored commuter train service to Hackettstown and Mount Olive Monday, Oct. 31, extending the reach of its Boonton line by nine miles and two stations. The last commuter rail service seen in Hackettstown was in 1966. Operating costs for the service are subsidized as
part of a two-year, $7 million federal Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality grant. NJ Transit hopes to attract enough riders during the course of the grant to sustain the service thereafter. (Star Ledger)
