The MTA Board voted November 22 to remove the reconstruction of Brooklyn's Franklin Avenue Shuttle from its Third Capital Plan. The Board was pressed hard on funding the decrepit Shuttle's rehabilitation by Brooklyn community activists and transit and environmental justice

advocates organized as the Coalition to Save the Franklin Avenue Shuttle. Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden also joined in the fight to save the Shuttle, arguing that Brooklyn has been shortchanged in the rebuilding program. While approving the deferral of the reconstruction project,

the MTA seemed impressed by sentiment in favor of the Shuttle and directed the Transit Authority to reexamine capital projects to see if any funds could be found. The Coalition is meeting this week to evaluate next steps. Contact the Straphangers Campaign, 212-349-6460 or the NYC

Environmental Justice Alliance at 212-866-4511.
