TRENTON (AP) – What’s needed in the transit crisis is action, not more study, says Gov. Robert B. Meyner. His highway commissioner Dwight R. G. Palmer agrees.
Both men were cool at a news conference yesterday to a proposal by the Regional Plan Association for a five-million-dollar study of metropolitan transportation. It would take three years.
“There are so many agencies now, I would like to see some of them start producing before we hire any more,” Mr. Palmer said.
Gov. Meyner said he didn’t want to indicate he has no interest in the proposal, but felt the state should go ahead with efforts by its newly created Division of Rail Transportation in the Highway Department, and a proposed New York-New Jersey Transportation Agency.
